As World War 2 started threatening the peace of their country, the Ten Boom family began to grow worried. They were told that they would stay a neutral country, however that all changed when Germany invaded Holland. Hitler began to control everything, from their source of entertainment, to who they associated with. When the Nazis began to persecute the Jews, The Ten Booms knew that they had to do something. So Corrie became the forefront of an underground movement to save jews. The Beje became the center of this movement, and no one suspected that such an open place could hold Jews. In Corrie's bedroom, a secret room was made that looked just like a wall. Many Jews filtered through the Beje. Some stayed for short time periods, and others were meant to stay there until the war ended. They got very good at drills to hide as fast as they could incase an inspection was ever implemented by the Nazis. Unfortunately, Corrie's business was found out one day. A man came to the Beje saying his wife was in jail and needed help. Corrie agreed to help him. A short while later, Nazi officers arrived. They arrested Corrie and her family. It turned out that the man was bait. Fortunately, the Jews that were hidden in Corrie's home were not found in the secret room, and were delivered to safety.
